Playoff Round 2 – Winners & Losers Emerge

Playoff Bracket 2

Facing off in the Winner’s Bracket, the Narwhals & Leatherbacks look to remain unbeaten in the playoffs with the winner getting a Labor Day Weekend bye as well as a berth into the Championship Round. They split their two games during the regular season where the Narwhals won the first matchup 10-1 and the Leatherbacks took the second matchup 9-3.

After opening round losses, the Loser’s Bracket has the Turkey Vultures & the Bearded Dragons fighting to stay alive and end the other’s dreams of becoming champions. The Vultures swept the Dragons 6-5 & 16-4 during the regular season.

Leatherbacks Clinch 1st Place, 2-4 Seeding Still Not Set

By winning 9-0 over the Tundra Wolves, the Leatherback Turtles clinched first place and home field advantage in the 2014 playoffs.

With their loss to the Bearded Dragons and the Honey Badgers forfeit to the Turkey Vultures, the Mustached Bats have officially been eliminated from the playoff hunt. Though the Dragons, Narwhals, and Vultures are all definitely vying for a championship this year, we still don’t know what the 2-4 seeding will be.

The final week of the 2014 regular season could be a preview of the first round playoff, as the Turtles face the Vultures, and the Dragons take on the Narwhals this week. However, if the Narwhals and Turtles both win, the Dragons would drop to the #4 seed, and play against the Turtles in the first round. If the Vultures lose, the Narwhals & Dragons would play each other 2 weeks in a row regardless of who wins this week’s game, but the game would still determine who takes the #2 seed & who drops to #3.

The Narwhals can finish no lower than 3rd, and the Turkey Vultures no higher. The defending champion Bearded Dragons could finish 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.

2014 Playoffs shaping up

With 3 games remaining on the regular season, the Bull Sharks and Honey Badgers join the Tundra Wolves as being eliminated from playoff contention.

The Mustached Bats missed a huge opportunity to strengthen their playoff chances by losing 3-2 to the Turkey Vultures, courtesy of Matt McGovern’s walk-off hit in the bottom of the 10th (his second walk-off of the season). The Bats still have an outside shot at the 4th seed in the playoffs, but must win out and hope either the Narwhals or Turkey Vultures lose their last three, as those teams both hold the tie breaker over them. They could technically make it if they win out and the Bearded Dragons lose their last three, but would have to do the near impossible by making up a run differential spread of 69 with the Dragons.

Outside of the Bats making an improbable run, it looks like the Leatherback Turtles, Bearded Dragons, Narwhals, & Turkey Vultures are playing for seeding at this point, with no team locked in to their current spot. There are a total of 4 games remaining between these teams, which could have a huge impact on the playoff standings.
